KUCHING: The capital of Sarawak has been named Malaysia’s most affordable summer destination, according to digital travel platform Agoda’s latest list of budget-friendly getaways for June to August 2025.
With an average nightly room rate of RM227.64*, Kuching has reclaimed its top spot from Kuala Terengganu, which briefly held the title in April and May this year.
Regionally, Surabaya, Indonesia, emerged as Asia’s most budget-friendly summer destination, offering an average room rate of just RM150.33* per night.
Tirupati, India (RM158.92*), and Hat Yai, Thailand (RM167.51*) followed closely, completing the top three most affordable Asian destinations for travellers this summer.
Fabian Teja, country director for Malaysia and Brunei at Agoda, noted the range of travel opportunities revealed by Agoda’s data.
“From Surabaya and Tirupati to Hat Yai and Kuching, the diversity of destinations on this list shows how summer travel can be both memorable and budget-conscious.

The Cheapest Summer Destinations ranking, compiled by Agoda, is based on average room rates in the 10 most popular destinations across nine Asian markets, aiming to guide travellers looking for wallet-friendly summer options.
