LUNDU: The Sarawak government is stepping up rural infrastructure development in Opar constituency through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA)-led project alignment visits.
Organised by the Kuching-Samarahan Division of the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), the technical visits on Monday covered Kampung Tembawang Sauh, Kampung Bitokan 1, Kampung Selampit 1, Kampung Selampit 2, and Kampung Perian.
The focus was on upgrading agricultural roads and drainage systems to better serve local communities.
Among the projects identified were the upgrade of agricultural roads in Kampung Tembawang Sauh with a ceiling allocation of RM180,000, as well as the upgrading of agricultural roads leading to the cemetery in Kampung Bitokan 2, which involves a RM200,000 allocation.
In Kampung Selampit 1, a project to upgrade the drainage system was proposed with a ceiling allocation of RM150,000, while a similar drainage upgrade project behind Sekolah Kebangsaan Selampit for Kampung Selampit 2 also involves the same allocation.
The visit also included project alignment determination for two agricultural road upgrade projects in Kampung Perian, with ceiling allocations of RM160,000 and RM200,000 for the Sungai Perian area.
For the record, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang joined the visits to review the proposed project alignments firsthand, highlighting his commitment to ensuring that the projects meet the real needs of residents.
Also present were Lundu District Officer Zulkarnain Ismail, along with technical officers and local community representatives.
All these projects are expected to have a positive impact on rural basic infrastructure development, particularly in supporting agricultural activities, improving drainage systems, and enhancing the quality of life of residents in the Opar area, in line with the GKCDA’s balanced development agenda.
