KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Agro MADANI Sales Programme continues to ease the people’s burden while creating wider market opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the initiative, organised by the ministry through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), brings locally produced goods directly from the farms to consumers without involving middlemen.
“This approach allows the public to enjoy savings of between 10 and 30 per cent while also boosting the marketing and sales of local agricultural products,” he told reporters after officiating the National Month’s special edition for the programme at the Al-Malik Mosque compound, Uni Garden, here today.
In 2024, the programme recorded 7,295 events nationwide with total sales amounting to RM162.45 million, saving consumers RM43.64 million.
It involved 92,065 entrepreneurs, reached 4.28 million consumers, and benefited 15.32 million households.
For 2025, the ministry is targeting 3,500 events nationwide with total sales of RM52.5 million, savings of RM15.75 million, the participation of 52,500 entrepreneurs, and a reach of 1.75 million consumers, benefiting seven million households.
In Sarawak, last year’s sales reached RM7.58 million from 473 events involving 3,459 entrepreneurs.
This year, FAMA Sarawak aims to hold 350 events, and as of end-July, 46 events have been carried out with total sales of RM191,062.10.
Kurup said the strong public demand for the programme meant that actual figures often exceeded the initial targets.
“For example, last year our national target was 5,000 Agro MADANI Sales events, but we achieved 7,200. This year’s target is lower on paper, but we expect to surpass it again,” he said.
He added that the strategic selection of venues, such as densely populated housing areas, helps reduce logistics and travel costs for the public while maximising reach.
Today’s event, organised in collaboration with the office of N17 Stakan Assemblyman, Datuk Hamzah Brahim, featured discounted sales, Agro MADANI combo packages, lucky draws, and competitions.
