KUCHING: Sarawak’s agrofood and commodity sectors took a significant leap in 2025, driven by stronger implementation standards and improved sectoral management.
Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said his ministry not only navigated challenges successfully this year but also set new benchmarks in policy execution and sector governance, most notably reflected through the success of Sarawak Agrofest (SAF) 2025.
“SAF 2025 was a clear reflection of our capacity to deliver, showcasing that Sarawak is ready to compete confidently in the regional agrofood landscape,” he said.
“The turnout of 811,000 visitors and RM6.4 million in sales demonstrated Sarawak’s ability to manage large-scale events, attract investors, highlight local innovation and strengthen the state’s position as a serious driver of agricultural transformation.”
Dr Rundi’s speech text was read by Deputy Minister Datuk Martin Ben during the Ministry’s Appreciation Dinner here last night.
He also credited the achievement to disciplined implementation, structured cooperation and strong organisational commitment.
Looking ahead, Dr Rundi outlined four strategic pillars to guaide the ministry’s direction namely enhancing productivity through technology, strengthening research on seeds and livestock, improving the agrofood value chain, and ensuring long-term food security for Sarawak.
“We will move forward confidently and with clear planning as we continue building a stable, resilient and sustainable food ecosystem.”
Also present were ministry permanent secretary, Datuk Sirai Daha, Sarawak Agriculture Department director Dominic Chunggat and SALCRA General Manager, Datuk Joseph Blandoi.
