BINTULU: The Sarawak Metropolitan Food Cluster (SMFC) Consortium showcased its flagship Metropolitan Food Cluster (MFC) Opar project at the fifth edition of Sarawak Agrofest.
The project features state-of-the-art smart farming and processing technologies aimed at supporting the Sarawak Government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“SMFC’s involvement in the Sarawak Agrofest is not merely to showcase our project and technologies, but to demonstrate how integrated systems of global technology and local talents can transform agriculture into a high-value, future-ready industry,” SMFC said in a statement.
Located in Lundu, MFC Opar spans about 84 hectares and drives an integrated ecosystem combining artificial intelligence (AI)-powered greenhouse farming, sustainable feed processing and agro-logistics.
The consortium said the initiative is designed to reduce reliance on imported produce, strengthen domestic supply, and create skilled jobs.

It added that the project also aims to contribute to Sarawak’s aspiration of becoming a net food exporter by 2030.
“With AI-powered greenhouses, circular economy principles, and advanced supply chain systems, we can position Sarawak to export produce to other ASEAN markets,” SMFC said.
The Sarawak Agrofest 2025 was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking at a press conference after officiating the event, Abang Johari lauded the exhibitions showcased during the festival.
Once serving as Agriculture Minister early in his political career, he said he had observed significant changes in the use of technology in food production.
“I also saw elements of a circular economy being showcased, where raw materials are being turned into new products, especially from oil palm plantations and food crops.
“And if we want to market these products abroad, we must have effective logistics,” he said.
