KUCHING: More than 100 professionals from the sustainability, energy, and technology sectors convened for the “AI Meets Sustainability: Driving Impact Through Digitalisation” forum here.

It was jointly organised by UNIVERS, Arc Technologies, and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).

“The theme of today’s forum, ‘AI Meets Sustainability’, is not only timely, it is necessary,” said Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang at the opening of the event.

“In today’s fast-changing world, combining digital technology with climate action is no longer a luxury; it is a responsibility we all share.”

Lo highlighted Sarawak’s commitment to both digital transformation and environmental responsibility.

“Through the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030, we aim to become a regional leader in smart infrastructure and green innovation,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration.

“To solve real-world challenges, we must work together across government, industry, academia and technology,” he added.

A key highlight of the forum was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SDEC and UNIVERS.

The strategic collaboration aims to advance AI-enabled sustainability initiatives in Sarawak.

Both parties have formalised their partnership to jointly promote and implement artificial intelligence and digital solutions, particularly in the Net Zero arena.

This underscores Sarawak’s commitment to fostering innovation and developing practical solutions in its climate and digital agendas.

Following the MoU ceremony, SDEC chief executive officer Datuk Sudarnoto Osman, delivered the keynote address, outlining how Sarawak is translating its digital ambitions into measurable climate outcomes through policy and innovation.

“SDEC’s role is not to code the engine; it is to build the environment where innovative technologies like AI can thrive.

“This forum is proof that Sarawak is ready to scale what works, from pilots to policy, and from insight to action,” he said.
