BARCELONA: The Sarawak Government, through the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC), has signed a strategic partnership with Spanish AI specialist Llamalítica to transform healthcare across the state’s urban and rural communities.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), inked today (Mar 5) during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, aims to develop AI-powered tools designed to improve clinical outcomes and enhance the quality of life for all Sarawakians.
The collaboration supports Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, reflecting the state’s ambition to become a regional leader in digital infrastructure and technology-enabled public services.
SAIC chief executive officer (CEO), Professor Patrick Then, described the partnership as a “game-changing journey” for the state.

“Sarawak is systematically leveraging artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies as key enablers of sustainable economic growth and digital excellence,” he said.
Professor Then added that the initiative will focus on building a robust, innovation-driven AI ecosystem capable of delivering tangible benefits across public services, including healthcare.
Under the MoU, both parties will work on AI-based solutions for clinical and administrative support, promote knowledge transfer for healthcare professionals, and advance health equity in underserved rural communities.
Llamalítica, a specialist in generative AI for healthcare, will provide technology to support clinical decision-making and streamline patient workflows, while maintaining strict data governance and privacy standards.
Its CEO, Dr Frederic Llordachs, said AI has the potential to democratise digital health by offering personalised and sustainable care.
“This MoU with SAIC marks an important step towards delivering meaningful social impact,” Dr Llordachs added.
The partnership is also expected to accelerate local talent development and ensure that AI solutions created in Sarawak meet international standards for global competitiveness.
