KUCHING: The ‘Convention on Productivity Empowerment through Artificial Intelligence (AI)’, held in conjunction with the 2025 Productivity & Innovation Day, took place under the theme ‘AI for All: Productivity Transformation in the Digital Era’.
The programme gathered more than 250 participants, including 22 groups from both the public and private sectors who showcased their AI projects.
The strong turnout reflected a collective commitment to advance the nation’s digital transformation and productivity agenda.
Deputy Federal Secretary of Sarawak, Mohamad Anuardi Hajani, noted that AI is no longer an option but a necessity in boosting the nation’s competitiveness.
“AI plays a vital role in strengthening public service delivery to be more transparent, efficient, and people-centric, while also helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) reduce operational costs, accelerate innovation, and improve product quality,” he said in his opening speech.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Regional Director of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), Dr Mazlina Shafii, in her welcoming remarks, stressed that AI is the new engine of competitiveness capable of transforming the way organisations and industries operate.
“However, we must be mindful of the productivity paradox, where large investments in technology do not necessarily lead to immediate productivity gains,” she said.
“AI must be harnessed inclusively, focused on outcomes, and deliver direct impact to both the people and investors.”
Mazlina also announced that MPC, together with the Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office (SUPS), will organise a Bureaucratic Red Tape (RKB) Reform & AI Workshop in Bintulu on October 14 and 15.
“The workshop will discuss real on-ground challenges and translate public sector AI projects into practical solutions to support bureaucratic reform and economic growth,” she said.
In conjunction with the convention, the winners of the AI project competition were also announced.
In the public sector category, the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Tun Abdul Razak Campus, Kota Samarahan, swept all three top prizes with Team SmartEd Creators (Champion), Team Neurolit (First Runner-up), and Team Magic AI (Second Runner-up).
In the private sector category, One or Zero Technologies Sdn Bhd secured the Champion title with Team Aispirasi and the First Runner-up with Team Aidea, while Team Aangus Academy Innovators from H.M Success Company claimed Third Place.
Additional awards were given to Team Bajah from IPG Tun Abdul Razak for Best Video, Team SmartEd Creators for High Impact Innovative Project, and Team DVETS from the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department for the Public Jury’s Choice Award.
