KUALA LUMPUR: AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd has launched the AIA Penyala Harapan Scholarship Programme, an initiative designed to support purpose-driven Malaysian youth in pursuing higher education.

The scholarship is funded through the surplus contributions of AIA PUBLIC Takaful certificate participants, channelled into the AIA Penyala Harapan Charity Fund – a dedicated fund set up to uplift communities nationwide through various charitable efforts.

In collaboration with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) through its IIUM Endowment Fund (IEF) Division, the scholarship is open to first-year degree students pursuing Islamic Banking, Islamic Finance, and Law.

A total sum of RM1.6 million has been allocated for the inaugural intake, benefiting 20 scholars by covering tuition fees and living expenses for up to four years.

Scholars may also be offered internship opportunities with AIA PUBLIC Takaful, subject to academic performance and programme criteria.

AIA PUBLIC Takaful Chief Executive Officer, Asri Omar, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to helping people live healthier, longer and better lives, with education serving as a key avenue to achieve that mission.

“We are delighted that this scholarship marks the first initiative under the AIA Penyala Harapan Charity Fund. With IIUM as our partner, we aim to nurture passionate and purpose-driven students who can shape their future and positively impact their families and communities,” he said.

IIUM was selected as a strategic partner due to its strong academic reputation and its position as Malaysia’s leading Islamic university.

With Islamic values integrated into all disciplines, IIUM shares AIA PUBLIC Takaful’s vision of ethical and values-based development.

IIUM Deputy Rector of Student Development and Community Engagement, Professor Datuk Dr Fauzan Noordin, said the collaboration would create meaningful opportunities for students.

Scholar selection will be based on academic performance, financial need, and clear future aspirations.

IIUM’s IEF Division will help shortlist candidates and provide mentorship throughout their studies, ensuring recipients receive both financial aid and academic guidance.

Eligible students admitted into the specified IIUM programmes are encouraged to apply through the IEF Division or visit AIA’s official website for further details.
