IF he were not in politics, Sadong Jaya assemblyman, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, says he would have pursued his passion for farming, particularly organic farming of herbs and fruits such as durian and rambutan.
In a recent Q&A session, he shared insights about his personal interests, local food, and small acts of kindness that inspire him.
Sarawak Tribune: What is a simple everyday thing in your constituency that always makes you smile?
Aidel: Whenever I visit my constituency, my ‘kampung’, the people always smile and welcome me. That always makes me happy.
Sarawak Tribune: If any visitors came to Kuching or Sadong Jaya, what local food spot would you recommend?
Aidel: Sadong Jaya is rich with cultural and traditional foods from Malay, Bugis, Javanese, and Chinese communities. I would recommend trying traditional food that is unique to the area, as it’s different from what you can find elsewhere.
Sarawak Tribune: When you’re not attending meetings or working, what hobby or activity would you like to pursue?
Aidel: I wish I could play musical instruments. I used to play a little, especially the guitar – both lead and acoustic. I also enjoy listening to musicians and guitarists.
Sarawak Tribune: What is a small act of kindness you’ve seen recently that stuck with you?
Aidel: One act that really touched me was seeing food aid being delivered to Palestinian children. It moved me deeply because these children are facing starvation.
Sarawak Tribune: If you decide to retire from politics, what would you do besides farming?
Aidel: I hope I can continue to serve and help people in other forms, even after leaving politics.
