KUCHING: A growing bond with the fans and a belief in the team’s direction could see Aidil Sharin Sahak extend his stay with Kuching City FC.

The head coach, who has spent the past two seasons building the squad, spoke about his connection to Sarawak and his desire to continue contributing to the club’s progress.

“To be honest, I love this country, I love the people here, the fans. I’ve been building this team for two years and you can see we are gradually getting better and better,” he told reporters when asked about his future.

Aidil added that results on the pitch have reflected the team’s steady development, reinforcing his motivation to carry on the work already put in.

“For me, honestly, I want to contribute more. Wherever I go, even in Kedah before, my target is always to bring the team to the AFC level, and we are nearly there now,” he said.

Aidil was speaking after his side secured a 2-1 win over Singaporean outfit, Hougang United FC, in a friendly match on Saturday (March 28) at the Stadium Negeri, as part of their build-up for the Malaysia Cup semi-final first leg against Selangor FC in Petaling Jaya on April 5.

He then expressed appreciation for the support shown by the club’s management, describing it as a key factor behind the team’s improvement.

“I’m grateful – the management have been doing a great job and giving full support,” he added.

Earlier this week, club chairman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman shared that negotiations to keep Aidil at the helm are moving in the right direction, with confirmation expected soon.

He described the discussions as encouraging, pointing to a shared desire to maintain stability as the club continues its upward trajectory.

Under Aidil, The Cats have emerged as one of the top teams in the Malaysia Super League, currently ranked third and having reached their first-ever Malaysia Cup semi-final.
