MATU: More than 12 tonnes of sacrificial meat were distributed to residents in the Jemoreng constituency through a Hari Raya Aidiladha distribution programme held today (May 26).

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the annual programme was continued as an effort to assist the local community while strengthening ties among people of various races and religions.

He said about 6,000 heads of households, including government staff serving in the constituency, received donation of sacrificial meat through the programme.

The distribution was coordinated through the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) of each village before being delivered to recipients through a gotong-royong approach.

“Programmes like this not only help ease the burden of the people, but also strengthen cooperation and unity within the community,” he told reporters at the programme held at the Matu District Mosque Square today (May 26).

Meanwhile, Iban community representative Tuai Rumah Entoi Sat expressed appreciation to the Jemoreng assemblyman, saying the initiative also benefited the Iban community ahead of the upcoming Gawai celebration.

Chinese community leader Law Ai San also conveyed appreciation for the care shown, saying the contribution brought joy to the local community.

In addition, Pemanca Mesaleh @ Che Jeni Shahdan said the programme reflects the concern of the elected representative in understanding the needs of people from all walks of life in the area.
