KUCHING: Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) has recently stepped up its efforts to support communities in need by providing monetary aid and food boxes to over 600 recipients in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the initiative aimed to support communities in Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai and Demak Laut by easing their financial burdens.
“In the parliamentary constituency alone, we have around 600.
“So earlier Pantai Damai had 200, and the same goes for Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai and Demak Laut.
“We have to be fair to them all. So it’s not just giving raya money, but also providing food boxes,” she said in a press conference after officiating at the 2025 Sinar Syawal YKN programme sponsored by Alliance Islamic Bank Bhd at Mydin Petra Jaya here today.
She emphasised that the effort was focused on helping her constituency, even though similar initiatives were happening throughout the country.
Besides, Nancy also acknowledged the generosity of Malaysians who have come forward to assist others, especially during the upcoming festive season.
“We can see that Malaysians are always generous in helping.
“Some organise their own efforts and don’t even talk about it in the media. They just want to help,” she said.
Earlier, during the 2025 Sinar Syawal YKN programme, a total of 200 children from targeted communities received new festive clothing, sponsored by Alliance Islamic Bank Bhd.
As of Sunday, 150 children received their clothing at Mydin Petra Jaya, while 50 children received theirs in Lundu the day before, all to support them in celebrating Aidilfitri.
