LIMBANG: The road safety operation for the Aidilfitri festive season this year will be implemented earlier to ensure a safe and smooth journey for those returning to their hometowns.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the operation will run from Mar 16 to 29, aiming to improve safety and awareness among road users nationwide.

Among the measures included is a four-day road ban for goods vehicles, enforced from Mar 19 to 20 and March 28 to 29, on highways and main roads throughout the country.

“This step is taken to reduce traffic congestion and ensure higher road safety standards throughout the festive period,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report during a Ramadan Bubur Kacang distribution programme here recently.

Hasbi, who is also Limbang MP,  advised all road users in Sarawak and across the country to drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations to ensure safe travel to their destinations.

Separately, Hasbi alongside Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, visited the landslide site at Jalan Buangsiol, Kampung Bukit Kota, to inspect ongoing recovery work.

According to him, the road is now passable, but several critical measures are still needed, including the removal of trees on the hillside that could cause landslides during periods of heavy rainfall.

Hasbi also urged the Public Works Department (JKR) to cover the landslide area with canvas and expedite the recovery work so it can be completed before Aidilfitri.

These measures aim to protect road users and ensure smooth journeys for residents, especially during the busy festive period.
