KUCHING: Sarawak’s rising muaythai star, Muhammad Nur Aiman Kamaruddin, better known as Aiman Kenyalang, made headlines after claiming the national title at the 2025 National Combat Sports (Pre-SUKMA) Muaythai Championship, held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil from Jul 24 to 27.
Representing Kelab Muaythai Kenyalang (MTK), the 17-year-old defeated Johor’s Mohd Danish in the final bout to emerge champion in his category, capping off a remarkable journey that began at the age of 13.
“This win means everything to me. I’m proud to carry Sarawak’s name at this level,” said the SMK Demak Baru student when met by Suara Sarawak.
The young athlete admitted that the road to victory was not without obstacles, having to contend with more experienced opponents from other states. Nevertheless, he attributed his triumph to discipline, consistent training, and the encouragement of those around him.
“I am grateful for the support I’ve received throughout this journey — from the Sarawak Muaythai Association, national coaches Ajan Putra and Zulkeplie Abdul Rahman, my club coach Ajan Putra Nazri, waikru trainer Johani Roslan, and most importantly, my family and friends,” he added.
When asked about the key to his success, Aiman spoke of the importance of spiritual discipline and parental blessings.
“My mother’s prayers and never neglecting my daily prayers have kept me grounded. That’s the foundation of everything.”
Aiman, who idolises Sarawak’s Muaythai veteran Wassof Rumijam, has set his sights on representing Malaysia at the SEA Games and IFMA World Championships.
He also offered words of encouragement to other aspiring athletes:
“Put your prayers first, respect your elders, train with focus, and ignore the naysayers. Keep going in what you love.”
With unwavering determination and continued support from the Sarawak sports fraternity, Aiman Kenyalang is poised to make a lasting mark on both the national and international Muaythai scene.
