KUCHING: Sarawak cyclists excelled at the 2025 Malaysia MTB National Championship, with Aimy Nazurah Rais winning the Women’s Youth title and teammate Sharifah Nur Aina Marissa Wan Ridzaudin taking second.
The championship, held from July 24 to 27 at Bukit Bakar in Machang, Kelantan, drew top riders from across the country to compete in a range of events including MTB Downhill, Cross Country Olympic (XCO), Cross Country Eliminator (XCE), and Cross Country Short Circuit (XCC).
Aimy led the charge for Sarawak, riding with composure and control throughout the demanding course.
“I am very proud of her recent achievements, and a great response to her previous performance where she finished third in her category at the BMX national championships.
“I hope she continues to stay focused and wins more races in the lead-up to the next SUKMA,” said Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) president Irawan Sudarsono.
In the Women’s Under-23 Cross Country Olympic (XCO) event, Sarawak’s Nur Farah Ain Nabiela Abdullah Hafiz also put in a stellar ride to finish second.
Sarawak’s men also delivered solid results across multiple events. In the Men’s Downhill Elite category, Norshahriel Haizat Ahmad Nazali and Haziq Fathuddin Bashir placed fifth and seventh respectively, while youth rider Muhammad Luthfil Hasief Freddie secured sixth place in the Men’s Youth Downhill.
Other notable results included Muhammad Fikri Iqbal Kadir (4th, Men’s Junior XCO), Bryan Goh Zhu Yee (7th, same category), Mohd Zakwan Zamahari (4th, Men’s U23 XCO; 12th, XCC), and four riders advancing to the quarterfinals in the Men’s XCE event.
Sarawak also saw four male riders reach the quarterfinals in the Men’s MTB Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE).
The team’s focus now shifts to upcoming regional competitions and the 2026 SUKMA Games, where expectations will be high following this successful national outing.
