KUCHING: Air quality in several parts of Sarawak showed some improvement on Aug 24, although eight areas remained at unhealthy levels as of 8am.
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings were recorded at IPD Serian and Lundu, both at 189.
This was followed by Tebedu at 179, Kuching (175), Samarahan (170), Sri Aman and Lubok Antu (158), and Bintulu (108).
Several areas that had recorded higher readings in recent days also showed improvement, although air quality remained unhealthy in parts of southern Sarawak.
Meanwhile, API readings in other areas were at moderate levels, including Mukah (95), Samalaju and Lawas (90), Miri (86), ILP Miri (84), Sibu (80), Sarikei (79), Kapit (74), Limbang (70) and Bario (58).
An API reading of between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, while 51 to 100 is considered moderate.
