THE Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) added two new air quality monitoring stations in Kanowit and Belaga to expand air quality monitoring coverage.

Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the expansion complemented the five existing stations in Lundu, Tebedu, Lubok Antu, Bario and Lawas.

“Overall, the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Sarawak from January to October 2025 were within the ‘Good’ (0-50) to ‘Moderate’ (51-100) categories.

“In addition, 12 air quality monitoring stations operated by the Department of Environment are located in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Samalaju, Miri, ILP Miri and Limbang,” he said.

He said this when delivering the Natural Resources and Urban Development ministerial winding-up speech on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan in the august House today.

Len said NREB also conducted 56 industrial environmental education programmes to raise awareness of environmental issues.

He said the programmes targeted communities, school students and teachers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and industry stakeholders to foster environmental responsibility.

“NREB aims to establish 1,459 PALS (Kelab Pencinta Alam Sekitar) clubs in all schools to strengthen environmental education.

“To date, 681 PALS clubs have been formed,” he added.
