KUCHING: AirBorneo has signed a four-year Pratt & Whitney Canada maintenance agreement for PW127M engines through 2030.
AirBorneo Airways chief executive officer Megat Ardian Aminuddin said the airline valued having engine maintenance support based in Singapore.
“Having this support based in Singapore puts our engine maintenance and repairs close to home and gets our aircraft back in service faster.
“That confidence gives us the operational certainty we need to consistently serve our customers on our intra-Borneo routes, where reliable air transport is a vital link for remote communities,” he said.
Under the agreement, Pratt & Whitney Canada, an RTX business, will provide comprehensive maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the PW127M engines powering AirBorneo’s ATR 72-500 regional turboprops.
The engines will be primarily maintained at Pratt & Whitney Canada’s Singapore facility, a customer support hub for the Asia-Pacific region.
AirBorneo operates its ATR 72-500 aircraft on the Rural Air Services network, which connects remote and underserved communities across East Malaysia.
Pratt & Whitney Canada vice president for customer service Anthony Rossi said the companies had worked together to develop the maintenance arrangement.
“We worked closely with AirBorneo to develop a maintenance solution that manages engine costs and supports high dispatch availability for these critical flights,” he said.
Pratt & Whitney Canada said recent investments at its Singapore facility had expanded its turboprop maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities, strengthening its ability to provide more localised support to operators across the region.
AirBorneo is Sarawak’s state-owned airline and was established in January 2026 following the transition from MASWings.
It expanded beyond Rural Air Services in July with the introduction of jet operations to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
The airline operates ATR 72-500 turboprops powered by PW127M engines and Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otters powered by PT6A-34 engines.
It also has eight ATR-600 aircraft powered by PW127XT Series engines on order.
The PW127M is part of Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW100 engine family.
Pratt & Whitney Canada said PW100 engines have accumulated more than 200 million flight hours and have supported regional turboprop operations for more than 40 years.
