THE AirBorneo is poised to create balance between connectivity, affordable fares and economic benefits.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said that strengthening air connectivity and investing in airline capabilities will lay the foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth across sectors.

“This effort will also position Sarawak as a key player in the regional aviation landscape and a catalyst for aerospace industry development in the state,” he said.

He said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Earlier, he said that following the successful signing of the Share Purchase Agreement between the Sarawak government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) on Feb 12, the full takeover of MASwings Sdn Bhd is expected to be completed by Dec 31.

He added that this will take place upon the transfer of legal and beneficial ownership to AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd.

“Throughout the transition period from Feb to Dec 2025, all stakeholders are actively working to fulfil key conditions, including securing regulatory approvals, transferring operational assets from MAG to AirBorneo Holdings and implementing the necessary steps along with strategies to ensure a seamless transition of operations.

“And AirBorneo will embark on a transformational role in enhancing Sarawak’s regional and international air connectivity.

“AirBorneo will of course still focus on Rural Air Services and progressively on regional destinations,” he added.
