KUCHING: AirBorneo officially launched its first international service between Kuching and Singapore on Wednesday (July 22), coinciding with the 63rd Sarawak Day celebration.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Singapore route marked the beginning of a new era for Sarawak’s aviation sector and regional connectivity.
“Today, the second gift for the people of Sarawak that I wish to announce is that AirBorneo, our very own airline, is making its first international flight from Kuching to Singapore.
“This inaugural flight is not merely the opening of a new route, but symbolises the beginning of a new era in the development of Sarawak’s regional air connectivity.
“It reflects our confidence in Sarawak’s ability to build a transport system that is more efficient, competitive and future-oriented,” he said during the Sarawak Day 2026 celebration on Wednesday (July 22) night.
Abang Johari said AirBorneo formed part of Sarawak’s broader modern transport ecosystem, complementing the state’s ports, road networks, airports and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system to create a more efficient, sustainable and integrated mobility network.
He said the airline also reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity, stimulating business activities, expanding tourism and attracting greater investment into the state.
“At the same time, it opens up opportunities for our people and business community to connect with a wider market, including introducing local products such as dabai.
“Perhaps one day AirBorneo will serve dabai from Song and Kanowit on its international flights so that our unique local produce can be introduced to the world,” he added.
