MUKAH: The state government’s efforts to own its own airline are now having a direct impact on the people, further strengthening air connectivity – particularly for rural communities – following the safe landing of AirBorneo’s inaugural flight at Mukah Airport today.

Tellian state assemblyman, Royston Valentine, said the historic landing proved the success of Sarawak in establishing its own airline that prioritises the well-being of the people, especially those in rural and interior areas.

He said the initiative reflects the commitment of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to ensure that more efficient and comfortable air connectivity can be enjoyed by all segments of society.

“Besides relying on land transportation, the people of Mukah now have a more efficient air travel option, making movement and daily affairs easier,” he said when met by the media as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

Royston said the presence of AirBorneo not only enhances mobility for rural residents but also opens up opportunities for local economic growth and boosts the tourism sector in the area.

He added the local community is also ready to welcome tourists, with various proposals and tourism development projects currently being planned and implemented under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).

Among the proposed plans is the development of tourism facilities along the Mukah coastline, including food courts and recreational spaces, to attract visitors from outside the area.

Meanwhile, Balingian state assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, who was also on board AirBorneo’s inaugural flight to Mukah, described the flight as a historic moment for the people of Mukah.

He said the services and hospitality provided throughout the flight were satisfactory, complemented by a comfortable cabin environment and the neat and attractive uniforms worn by AirBorneo crew members.

Earlier, the inaugural AirBorneo flight carried 55 passengers from Kuching and landed safely at Mukah Airport at 9:20 am.
