NEW DELHI: India has expanded its airspace restrictions as its military standoff with Pakistan continues.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of notices to airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civil flight operations, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement yesterday.

These airports include Ambala in Haryana state, Amritsar in Punjab, Bhuj and Jamnagar in Gujarat, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Jammu and Srinagar in the Kashmir region, and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh state.

All civil flight activities at these airports will remain suspended until May 15, the statement said.

Military tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated in recent days and the border regions have seen aerial and artillery attacks. — BERNAMA
