KUCHING: AIZO Group Bhd is teaming up with K2 Bitumen Sdn Bhd to explore a strategic collaboration in the set up and operation of a green bitumen facility in Sarawak.
Wholly-owned subsidiary AIZO Manufacturing International Sdn Bhd (AMI) (formerly known as Minetech Asphalt Man International Sdn Bhd) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with K2 Bitumen on the collaboration.
“The proposed facility will focus on the production and commercialisation of crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB) and other sustainable bitumen products as well as the sharing of technology and joint initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable infrastructure development,” AIZO said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.
K2 Bitumen is principally involved in the production of CRMB using recycled rubber powder derived from used tyres and other reusable rubber products as well as the development of modified bitumen products and investment holding activities.
K2 Bitumen is also a certified environmental, social and governance (ESG) company, possesses the relevant expertise and technology in CRMB production and having experience in commercialising sustainable and environmentally responsible bitumen production.
AIZO said the collaboration will leverage AMI’s established presence in bituminous products alongside K2 Bitumen’s technical expertise in CRMB technology.
Both companies aim to jointly develop innovationdriven solutions that support Malaysia’s push toward greener infrastructure, especially in East Malaysia where large-scale road and industrial development is on-going.
AIZO’s executive director Ahmad Rahizal Dato Ahmad Rasidi said the collaboration with K2 Bitumen marks an important step in the company’s broader strategy to expand into sustainable and higher-value bituminous solutions.
“CRMB is increasingly recognised for its durability, recyclability and environmental benefits, aligning well with national objectives to promote greener construction materials.
“This initiative not only strengthen our bituminous product capabilities but also positions AIZO at the forefront of ESG development in Sarawak and across Malaysia,” he added.
Ahmad said K2 Bitumen brings specialised technology and execution capabilities that complement AIZO’s long-standing experience in civil engineering, bituminous manufacturing and infrastructure-related operations.
“Together, the parties intend to assess the potential to scale green bitumen production in East Malaysia, creating long-term synergies while supporting circular economy practices within the construction sector.”
AIZO said by introducing sustainable bitumen solutions and advancing the use of recycled rubber materials, the collaboration directly supports Sarawak’s on-going efforts to promote low-carbon construction materials, expand green manufacturing activities and strengthen circulareconomy practices.
