KUCHING: Al-Quran education in the state is set for a strategic expansion as the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) moves to empower women and senior citizens through specialised literacy and development programmes.
MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha said the newly established Darul Hana Al-Quran Development Centre (DHQc-MIS) will act as the catalyst for this inclusive educational agenda, ensuring no segment of society is sidelined from spiritual development.
He emphasised that senior citizens, particularly through the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE), possess the potential to become key drivers of Al-Quran culture within their local communities.
“We are planning to organise a mass khatam Al-Quran programme at the centre next year to involve these groups actively,” he said during the closing ceremony of the ‘Seminar Wanita Bijak Al-Quran’ at MAJMA Hall here today.
In a bid to formalise education for women, Misnu revealed a proposal to establish a special committee for women’s affairs development.
This committee will ensure that the role of women in Al-Quranic education and appreciation is strengthened through a more structured approach.
He noted that the recent seminar, a strategic collaboration between DHQc-MIS and Majlis Ad-Da’wah An-Nisa’iyyah (MADNIS), served as a vital initiative to enhance Al-Quranic literacy and fluency.
The two-day seminar attracted 500 participants from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia, focusing on the mastery of tajwid (rules of recitation) and makhraj (articulation points of letters).
“The primary goal is to improve the quality of Al-Quran recitation among women through expert guidance, while motivating them to consistently deepen their knowledge,” Misnu added.
Also present at the event were DHQc-MIS chief executive officer, Mohamad Shalahudin Marzuki, and Diwan Ar Rital Academy founder, Dr Haniah Salwana Abdul Rahim.
