ALGIERS: The Algerian capital, Algiers, hosted the fourth edition of the Games and Comic Con Dzair festival from April 2 to 4, highlighting the country’s growing engagement with gaming and creative industries, Xinhua reported.
The event drew large crowds of enthusiasts, featuring cosplay, e-sports competitions, cultural panels, and interactive workshops, and reflected the rising interest in digital entertainment among Algerian youth.
This year’s edition marked a significant milestone, drawing record-breaking attendance that surpassed 20,000 visitors.
Competitive gaming stood out as a major attraction, with players competing in popular titles such as Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6, drawing enthusiastic on-site audiences as well as online viewers.
The convention also underscored its international dimension, welcoming prominent guests from the global entertainment scene, who engaged with local fans and shared insights into the global gaming industry.
Organisers emphasised the festival’s dual role as both a cultural showcase and a professional platform.
In a statement to Xinhua, organising committee member Tamem Tighlit said the core mission of the event “is to serve as a vital bridge between Algeria’s passionate fan community and the global entertainment industry.”
Beyond the spectacle, the festival also secured strategic international partnerships. “We obtained official licenses from Chinese tech giant Tencent, which granted permission to organise major e-sports tournaments during the festival,” Tighlit said. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
