PETALING JAYA: Two first-half goals were enough for Selangor to secure all three points over Sri Pahang FC in their 2024/2025 Super League match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) here tonight.

Jordanian import striker Ali Olwan put Selangor ahead with a brilliant solo effort, dribbling past four defenders on the left before firing a low shot past goalkeeper Muhammad Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin in the 14th minute.

The Red Giants doubled their lead in the 39th minute when Chilean import forward Ronnie Fernandez calmly slotted in a close-range strike.

Last Sunday, Sri Pahang advanced to the Malaysia Cup final after eliminating Sabah FC in the semi-finals, setting up a title clash with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the end of April.

Selangor’s victory means reigning champions JDT will have to wait a little longer to confirm their 11th consecutive league title.

With five matches remaining, Selangor remain second in the league with 42 points, while JDT lead the standings with 55 points.

Sabah sit in third place with 32 points after 17 matches, while Terengganu FC have collected 24 points from 16 games.

Sri Pahang are in 11th place with 16 points after 17 matches.– BERNAMA
