BINTANGOR: Fund amounting to RM18,000 has been successfully raised by the newly formed SK St Augustine Meradong Alumni Association to purchase 500 plastic chairs for their alma mater.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing praised the initiative, noting that contributions came not only from former students but also from individuals outside the alumni network.
“This achievement highlights the alumni’s dedication to giving back.
“What’s even more heartening is the support received from those who are not alumni,” he said during the Chair Handover Ceremony held in conjunction with the school’s Gawai Dayak celebration on Friday.
Ding also extended his appreciation to the association’s president, Datuk Stephen Sia Ing Ngok, for playing a key role in reuniting former students and ensuring the success of the association.
He encouraged students to follow the alumni’s example by nurturing a sense of gratitude and a desire to contribute to their school in the future.
“Contributions such as incentives for outstanding students and teachers help uplift morale and further improve the school’s performance,” he added.
Meanwhile, the school shared plans to equip all classrooms with smart boards and new desks as part of efforts to enhance teaching and learning quality.
Ding also announced that he would apply for a 2026 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation to upgrade the school’s Peter Ting & Elizabeth Chuo Hall, including installing an LED screen, a new lighting system, and a public address (PA) system.
Additionally, he pledged a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM5,000 to support the alumni association’s 2025 activities.
