KUCHING: An ambulance rushing a patient to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) ended up in a crash itself when it rear-ended a three-tonne lorry along Jalan Tabuan Jaya yesterday (Jun 17).
The accident happened at around 6.16 pm and left the driver’s right leg stuck in his seat. Quick-thinking passersby managed to pull him out before emergency responders arrived.
Inside the ambulance were two medical staff, a patient, and three of the patient’s family members. Fortunately, all six escaped the crash without injuries.
The ambulance is believed to have skidded on wet and slippery road before slamming into the back of the lorry.
Following the collision, traffic slowed to a crawl as the crash site became partially obstructed.
All occupants of the ambulance, including the injured driver, were later transferred to SGH in two separate ambulances.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
The team assisted in directing traffic and cleared debris from the scene before ending the operation at 6.53 pm.
