KUCHING: World No. 1 An Se-Young delivered a performance of sheer grit and class today, defeating China’s Wang Zhiyi 13-21, 21-19, 21-15 to win the Indonesia Open 2025, and in doing so, became the first women’s singles player to claim three Super 1000 titles in a single season.

The 23-year-old South Korean had already lifted the Malaysia Open in January and the prestigious All England Open in March – both against Wang.

Her latest victory in Jakarta, after trailing a game down, completed a hat-trick unmatched in women’s singles history.

Played in front of a full house at Istora Senayan, the final was a test of mental resilience.

Wang started strong, pushing An onto the back foot early.

But as the match wore on, An found her rhythm – engaging in longer rallies, switching pace, and forcing errors from her opponent.

After 72 minutes, she fell to her knees, visibly moved by the scale of her achievement.

With this win, An takes home $101,500 (About RM 429,091) from the Indonesia Open’s $1.45 million prize pool.

“Every tournament felt like starting from zero. To win all three – it’s something I’ll remember forever,” said An, beaming after the final.

Her treble is unprecedented – even greats like Tai Tzu-Ying and Chen Yufei have never managed consecutive Super 1000 victories in one calendar year.

An’s achievement marks a new benchmark for excellence in the women’s game.
