KUCHING: The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak recorded strong support at its 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM), with 237 attendees reflecting continued confidence from the engineering fraternity in the state.

Ir Dr Angelia Liew was re-elected as chairman for the 2026/2027 term, ensuring continuity in leadership as the organisation advances its professional development and strategic initiatives.

The AGM, which was also attended by IEM deputy president Ir Yau Chau Fong reviewed achievements for the 2025/2026 term, including the successful hosting of the National Summit (NATSUM), IEM Sarawak’s overall championship win at the Inter-Professional Games (IPG), a record turnout at the IEM Run, and a well-supported annual dinner.

Members also highlighted the continued strong support from the Sarawak government and the wider engineering community for advancing the development of the engineering profession and industry in the state.

Looking ahead, IEM Sarawak will focus on hosting the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) 2026 in Kuching from Sept 2 to 4.

The event is expected to bring together engineering institutions, industry leaders, professionals and young talents from across the Asia-Pacific region, featuring the 34th FEIAP General Assembly, the World Engineering Congress and Exhibition, and the Youth Talent and Innovation Competition.

The hosting of FEIAP 2026 is expected to further position Sarawak as a regional platform for engineering excellence, collaboration and innovation.

Under Liew’s continued leadership, IEM Sarawak will strengthen professional development initiatives, support young engineers, and enhance collaboration with industry, academia, and public agencies.
