LIMBANG: A local man has gone missing while fishing at a river in Kampung Pandam yesterday (Jul 8), with signs pointing to a possible crocodile attack.
The victim has been identified as Karim Osman, 58.
Witnesses who arrived at the scene, discovered only the victim’s belongings and fishing gear along the riverbank, prompting a report to be lodged with Limbang police.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Limbang station were deployed to the scene, about 63km away, following a call from the police at 3.13 pm.
The first day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation covered a 1km radius downstream from where the victim was believed to have been attacked.
It was reported that during the search, rescuers reported seeing a crocodile briefly surface with what appeared to be a human body in its jaws.
The operation was suspended at 6.17 pm due to safety concerns and poor visibility.
At the time of writing, the search is ongoing and the victim is yet to be found.
