Anglers reel in cash prizes for heaviest catch

SARATOK: Two lucky anglers managed to bag RM500 each after landing the heaviest catch at a fishing competition in conjunction with the Saratok Festival 2025 here, today.

Abang Abdul Zulfasyraf won the shrimp fishing category, with a catch of 146 grams. Besides the prizemoney he also won a hamper.

Amirudin Sarudin, who managed to reel in a shrimp weighing 50 grams, finished second to win RM300 and a hamper.

Third place went to Collin Andrew in third place who hauled in 43 grams of shrimp for a prize of RM200 and a hamper.

Meanwhile, Mohd Naziman, who managed to land a fish weighing 208 grams, topped the fishing category to qualify him to receive a prize of RM500 and a hamper.

His two closest challengers, Mohd Syeifa and Abu Supian finished runner-up and third, respectively with catches weighing 180 grams and 151 grams.

Syeifa returned with a prize of RM300 and a hamper, while Abu received a prize of RM200 and a hamper.

The prizes to the winners were presented by the deputy head of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kalaka Branch, Kasdi Pandi representing Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri.

According to Kasdi, the fishing competition is an activity held every year.

He said that although the wharf area was quite limited, the competition went well.

“Due to the limited fishing area, this edition had to be limited to 60 fishing rods.

“However, it was still lively and went smoothly as planned,” he told Suara Sarawak.

The competition was organised by the Kalaka ADUN Service Centre in collaboration with the Kalaka Branch of the 1828 PBB Youth wing.

Kalaka Branch PBB Secretary, Gapor Ahmad and the Kalaka Branch PBB Youth head Harjam Jemain were also present.
