KUCHING: With running pegged as one of the nation’s favourite past time activity, one Malaysian is pushing his passion for the sport to newer heights – embarking on a noble 400km race to raise funds for stray animals in need.
In partnership with Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage Malaysia (TNRM Malaysia), Selangorian athlete David Christopher, is set to tackle the gruelling Route 68 Ultra, a 400km race spanning five days from 18 to 23 Feb 2025 for his heartfelt cause.
With a time limit of 120 hours, the endearing ultra-marathon begins from a beautiful and scenic landscape of Gombak, Selangor and ends at an Orang Asli settlement, through hilly roads surrounded by lush green forests.
“This is not just a test of endurance; it is a marathon for compassion. Every single step I take will directly help TNRM Malaysia’s efforts for street animals.
“Because it is not just about the kilometres, hours, or me questioning my life choices – it is about helping the strays,” the Selangorian shared.
For comparison, 400km is equivalent to running from Rawang, Selangor to Singapore (with a follow-up half marathon in the country) or going on eight trips across our neighbouring country, end to end.
The fundraiser operates on a unique pledge system, where donors commit to contributing a specific amount for every kilometre David completes.
After the event, they will donate based on the actual distance he covers. All funds raised will go directly to TNRM Malaysia, ensuring complete transparency and maximum impact.
Donors will also be contacted by him to confirm their pledged amount once he completes the ultra-marathon challenge.

When asked about what motivated him to initiate this challenge, David said “The reason why I am doing this is because every single ringgit raised will go towards spaying, neutering, medical care, and expenses for the strays.
“My goal is to fund at least 400 spay/neuter procedures. Every donation, no matter how small, gets us closer to ending their suffering,” he said.
David who has a profound love for animals had always held a soft spot for them since his younger days.
“They didn’t choose to be born on the streets, to search for food, to be chased away, or, worse, to be culled.
“But as an adult, I can’t ignore it anymore. I see strays every day — hungry, sick, abused, scared, constantly chased away as if they don’t belong,” he shared.
The Selangorian runner encourages everyone, from animal lovers to the wider public, to help spread the word and make a difference.

“Be kind. At the very least, leave stray animals in peace. They don’t need cruelty or fear—they need compassion, solutions, and a chance. Together, we can make that happen if we choose to,” David added.
TNRM is an NGO dedicated to humanely control the stray animal population through trap-neuter-release programs.
