LAWAS: Anjung Usahawan Sundar has the potential to emerge as a new tourism attraction supporting ecotourism development in the Sundar area.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the facility is not merely a trading space, but is also equipped with processing facilities and quality food premises, making it attractive not only to local residents but also to visitors.
“This Anjung Usahawan is designed to be more than a marketplace. With its organised layout and supporting facilities, it has the potential to become a tourism attraction in line with ecotourism development in this area,” he said when officiating the opening of Anjung Usahawan Sundar on Sunday.
Awang Tengah added that the project reflects the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening the rural economy by creating a conducive and systematic business environment for micro-entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the agriculture, livestock and food processing sectors.
He acknowledged that the Sundar area faces challenges such as flooding during periods of heavy rainfall and tidal surges, but stressed that it also has strong advantages, including abundant natural resources suitable for sustainable agricultural and livestock activities.
He also highlighted the strategic presence of Lepapa Lawas Hypermarket nearby, which attracts visitors from Brunei and Sabah, as an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to expand their market reach.
“With proper product quality, attractive packaging and compliance with required standards, local entrepreneurs can tap into this cross-border demand and further strengthen the rural economy,” he said.
The opening of Anjung Usahawan Sundar is expected to boost entrepreneurial activity while positioning Sundar as a potential ecotourism stop in the Lawas district.
