BAU: Another 80 farmers in the Tasik Biru constituency have received assistance under the Agricultural Facilitation Fund (AFF) programme, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to strengthening the rural agricultural sector.
The recipients comprised new coffee crop planters and participants of the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) for maize cultivation.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep handed over the agricultural inputs during a recent presentation ceremony here.
The beneficiaries were residents from Kampung Musi, Kampung Krawong Stass, Kampung Segong, Kampung Barieng, Kampung Senibung, Kampung Daun, Kampung Atas, Kampung Jagoi Sri-Ieng, Kampung Skiat Baru, Kampung Serikin, Kampung Bogag, Kampung Skiat Lama and Kampung Suba Buan.
Speaking at the event, Henry expressed hope that the assistance would help empower farmers and meet the needs of their agricultural activities.
He said the agricultural inputs provided are intended to enhance productivity and support participants in developing their farming ventures.
The AFF is a Sarawak government initiative designed to improve the income of smallholders through the provision of agricultural inputs such as fertiliser, pesticides and modern farming equipment, including grass cutters.
The latest distribution follows a similar exercise held more than a month ago, when 48 participants received fertiliser and pesticides to support pepper and oil palm cultivation.
Henry noted that since the programme was introduced in 2019, more than 2,000 residents in Tasik Biru have benefited from the initiative.
He added that the programme covers a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, inland fisheries, agro-based industries and livestock farming.
According to Henry, the Sarawak government has allocated RM4 million for the implementation of AFF in the constituency, reflecting its ongoing efforts to improve rural livelihoods and encourage greater participation in modern agriculture.
