KUCHING: Malaysia will send its largest-ever contingent to the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) with seven golfers named for the 16th edition in Dubai from October 23-26.

World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) No. 240, Anson Yeo, fresh from a breakthrough victory at the Tun Ahmad Sarji Trophy earlier this year, will lead the national squad at the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course.

Joining him are Zia Iqmal Abdul Rashid, Hariz Hezri, Maverick Chua, Farez Azihan, Joshua Lim and Zubair Firdaus.

“I’m really excited for my first Asia-Pacific Amateur. It’s a great opportunity to test myself against the top players,” said the Sarawakian, who at 18 is seen as the country’s brightest hope on the amateur circuit.

The AAC champion secures coveted invitations to the 2026 Masters Tournament in Augusta and The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale, while runners-up and top-three finishers also gain exemptions into major qualifying events.

Malaysia’s best finish at the AAC remains inside the top 10, but with Yeo’s form and the depth of this line-up, the Emirates challenge offers fresh promise of a breakthrough on the region’s biggest amateur stage.
