SELANGOR: Anson Tiong Cheong Huat gave Sarawak its first taste of gold at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026, powering his way to victory in the men’s 49kg powerlifting category with a 97kg lift.

He opened with 91kg before clearing 95kg and then successfully lifting 97kg on his final attempt to seal the top spot.

His composed approach paid off as the 97kg effort saw him edge Sabah’s Myzos Majanting, who finished second with 95kg.

Negeri Sembilan’s Roozaimi Johari completed the podium in third place after lifting 94kg.

The victory was a milestone for Anson, marking his first gold medal at Para SUKMA while also delivering Sarawak’s first gold of the Games.
