KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak plans to expand its anti-corruption education programme to all civil servants in the region.

Director Hasbilah Mohd Salleh expressed optimism this initiative would help to cultivate a work culture based on integrity, and ensure that Sarawak’s administration operate more efficiently and responsibly to gain the public’s trust.

He stressed that it was important for civil servants to follow established procedures and regulations to prevent weaknesses in the system that could lead to abuse of power.

Hasbilah shared this proposal during a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

He assured that MACC Sarawak would continue to provide guidance and advice to government agencies to ensure that policies and regulations were in line with principles of integrity and good governance.

He also highlighted plans to ramp up awareness campaigns and training programmes to enhance civil servants’ understanding of anti-corruption laws.

Abang Johari also received a courtesy visit from the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) delegation, led by its president, Datuk Misnu Taha.

Accompanying him was the Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who was also responsible for Islamic affairs in the state.

According to Abdul Rahman, the aim of the visit was to introduce the new leadership of MIS in conjunction with the council’s 70th anniversary, which would be celebrated on May 1.

This celebration is expected to serve as a source of motivation to strengthen the role of MIS as a key institution in promoting and upholding Islam in Sarawak.
