KUCHING: Police arrested 81 individuals for various drug-related offences during a seven-day special operation conducted across the district between Jan 29 and Feb 4.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation, codenamed ‘Op Tapis Khas Narkotik’, was carried out to curb drug distribution and abuse in the area.
Of those arrested, one suspect was detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, another under Section 39A(1), 10 under Section 12(2), one under Section 6, while 68 individuals were held under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
Police also seized 9.56 grams of methamphetamine and 504.05 grams of cannabis during the operation, with the total value of the drugs estimated at RM2,551.60.
Alexson said the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence gathering and public cooperation, adding that police would not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities.
He stressed that possession, distribution or protection of drug activities are serious offences under the law and reaffirmed the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department’s commitment to combating drugs to safeguard current and future generations
