BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has proposed three key pillars — namely financial security, digital security, and human security — to drive ASEAN Plus Three cooperation and strengthen ASEAN’s partnership with its East Asian counterparts.
Thai Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said Anutin attended the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit in Malaysia on Monday, alongside leaders and representatives from ASEAN member states and the three dialogue partners: China, Japan, and South Korea.
According to Siripong, the Prime Minister noted that the world has become increasingly complex and fragile; therefore, ASEAN and the Plus Three countries must reinforce and modernise their cooperation to respond effectively to emerging challenges in a comprehensive and timely manner.
“The Prime Minister proposed the concept of the ‘Three Securities Approach’, or the ‘Three Dimensions of Security’, as a framework for advancing ASEAN Plus Three cooperation in the future,” Siripong said in a statement.
In addition, he said the Prime Minister proposed greater utilisation of ASEAN centres located in Thailand, such as the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI) and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD).
“These centres can be used to enhance people’s quality of life, promote sustainable development, green finance, and the transition to clean energy,” he said.
Siripong said Anutin also expressed appreciation to the Plus Three partners for their proactive and constructive roles in supporting ASEAN, and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to fostering constructive cooperation among the Plus Three countries to genuinely strengthen the East Asian region.
“Throughout his engagements, the Prime Minister will represent Thailand as a leader committed to strengthening cooperation both within ASEAN and globally.
“He will use this platform to reaffirm Thailand’s role as a partner for regional sustainability, while promoting initiatives on digital technology development, clean energy, and building a secure and peaceful region for the shared benefit of ASEAN and the international community,” he said. – BERNAMA
