Anwar receives 19-gun salute in Kenya

NAIROBI: Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded an official welcome ceremony on Monday with a 19-gun salute at the State House, the official residence of Kenya’s President William Samoei Ruto.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Ruto and introduced to Chief Commander of the Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter, Major General (Navy) Paul Owuor Otieno, and Major General (Air Force) Bernand Waliaula.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of Malaysia, followed by Kenya’s. The leaders also witnessed the walk-by of the Guard of Honour and the Brass Band.

Also present were Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Zaliha Mustafa.

Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister signed the State House guest book, after which both leaders proceeded to their bilateral meeting.

Kenya, an East African nation, is bordered clockwise by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the 

east, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, Tanzania to the southwest, and Lake Victoria and Uganda to the west.

In 2024, Kenya emerged as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in Africa, with total trade amounting to RM5.7 billion, an increase of 1.2 per cent from RM5.51 billion in the previous year. – BERNAMA
