KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the acceleration of development projects.

In Sarawak, he highlighted several areas, including Sarikei, Mukah, Daro, Sri Aman and Saratok, that are in urgent need of either school reconstruction or the establishment of new schools.

“I’m making a clear request here: do not delay these projects.

“They must be implemented immediately, because the people want them to proceed without further delay,” he said.

Anwar made these remarks during the state-level Aidilfitri celebration organised by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) at Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya here today.

He also stressed the importance of expediting the construction of the Sarawak Cancer Hospital.

According to him, discussions between the federal and Sarawak governments have gone smoothly, with the Sarawak government agreeing to front RM1 billion for the project, to be reimbursed later by the federal government.

“That’s why I’m insisting it be fast-tracked.

“Just start it – get moving. If we’re going to build a cancer hospital, where should the top one be located? Across Malaysia, it should be here.

“Kuching will house the best cancer hospital in the country. If anyone asks which is the best, God-willing, it will be in Kuching,” he added.
