KUCHING: The second cohort of the Sarawak Youth Startup (SYStartup) Programme, set to run from November 8 to 15 in Miri, aims to empower young Sarawakians with the essential knowledge and skills needed to thrive as entrepreneurs.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, said the intensive programme organised by his ministry offers an avenue for youth aged 18 to 40 to enhance their entrepreneurial understanding through a comprehensive learning approach.

“This initiative is designed to encourage more young people to explore business opportunities and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

“The key concept we want to emphasize is the value of knowledge capital in becoming a successful entrepreneur,” he pointed out during a press conference held at Level 17, Baitulmakmur Building 2 on Wednesday.

Ripin highlighted that the programme played a crucial role in nurturing a new generation of Sarawakian youth capable of creating jobs and driving the state’s economic growth.

“Our goal is to produce more job creators rather than job seekers. This effort aligns with the Premier’s vision under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he added.

The upcoming cohort is expected to attract between 150 and 200 participants and will feature modules on entrepreneurial motivation, business registration, licensing, branding, accounting, and online scam awareness.

Ripin also urged interested youth to submit their applications before October 30 deadline via the ministry’s official website or by scanning the provided QR code.
