KUCHING: The Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT) is confident that 10,000 technicians and technologists will be registered in Sarawak by the end of this year.
APTT president Ahmad Zawawi Kasmin said technicians and technologists were not just support staff, but enablers of transformation.
He noted that to date, the association had successfully facilitated the registration of over 8,000 technicians and technologists in Sarawak.
“Whether in power plants, hydrogen research, solar farm maintenance or digital energy systems, technologists are the hands and minds that turn vision into implementation.
“We are actively working with our national regulatory partner, the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), to ensure more technologists in Sarawak are professionally registered.
“This is a milestone we are working hard to achieve, in honour of the commitment we made to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.”
Ahmad Zawawi said this during the opening of the Sustainable and Valuable Energy Conference (SAVE) 2025 at Imperial Hotel here on Tuesday (Aug 12).
The conference was attended by over 260 participants, including experts, policymakers, business leaders and innovators from Malaysia and Korea.
It aimed to explore practical solutions for transitioning to cleaner, more efficient and economically viable energy systems.
Ahmad Zawawi said their partnership with Korea South-East Power (KOEN) Co had demonstrated how technology transfer, joint ventures and skill exchanges could directly advance Sarawak’s hydrogen roadmap.
He added that it could also enhance smart energy systems and prepare the next generation of technologists to lead the energy transition.
Beyond SAVE 2025, he reaffirmed APTT’s commitment to regional training programmes for upskilling technicians in renewable technologies and MBOT-accredited workshops in rural areas.
He said the association would also develop digital platforms for mentoring and peer collaboration, as well as strengthen partnerships with academia, industry and government to support Sarawak’s sustainable energy goals.
“We believe a strong community of skilled, registered technologists is essential for turning Sarawak’s green vision into reality.”
