
KUCHING: A jobless man who reportedly robbed an elderly woman armed with a weapon was nabbed by police at his house on Sunday.
Kuching police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek said the suspect with another man still at large went to the victim’s house in Petra Jaya on the morning of Jan 9 and robbed her of cash, gold jewellery and other valuables in the house but they did not harm the victim.
After a police report was lodged and investigation carried out, police went to a house at Taman Malihah at 1.30pm Sunday and arrested the suspect.
Ng urged those who have information on the whereabouts of the other suspect, said to be in his 40s, to come forward.
The arrested suspect has several previous convictions of robbery and house break-ins as well as theft.
He said the case will be investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for armed robbery which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
