NEW DELHI: Two Indian army officers and a senior police official were killed in a gunfight with militants in the Jammu and Kashmir region on Wednesday.
They were carrying out an anti-rebel operation in the Anantnag district when the firefight took place, according to the army and police.
“Encounter has started in Kokernag area of Anantnag. Officers from Army and JKP injured. Details shall follow,” the Jammu and Kashmir police said on social media.
They succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
The dead were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonack, and deputy superintendent of Kashmir police Humayun Muzammil Bhat.
The colonel was commanding a unit of the Rashtriya Rifles force.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, one armyman and two militants were killed in the district of Rajouri, located near the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. – BERNAMA.
