LONDON: Arsenal maintained their flawless Champions League run by ending Bayern Munich’s win-streak with a commanding 3-1 win in London, overpowering the Bundesliga leaders with a dominant second-half display.

Jurrien Timber opened the scoring from a Bukayo Saka corner before 17-year-old Lennart Karl levelled for Bayern. But Arsenal pulled away after the break as substitutes Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli capitalised—Martinelli pouncing on a major Manuel Neuer error.

Harry Kane endured a forgettable return to London, barely influencing the match despite his prolific record.

Declan Rice hailed the performance: “This was probably the toughest game tactically we’ve played this season… There’s a hunger and desire to win every game.”

Arsenal’s set-piece strength shone again, with Timber’s header highlighting their precision from dead balls. Bayern had brief moments through Karl and Serge Gnabry, but the Gunners controlled the second half, repeatedly testing Neuer before finally breaking through.

Martinelli sealed it late, bursting past an exposed Neuer to finish into an empty net and keep the Gunners perfect after five group matches. – AFP
