KUCHING: Artistic flair and competitive spirit took centre stage as more than 150 gymnasts battled for honours in the Sarawak AGG Inter-School Competition 2025.

Held at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters, the meet gathered gymnasts aged 7–18 from schools, studios and clubs across Sarawak, with invited teams from Sabah adding to the regional spirit.

The event, organised by the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA) in collaboration with the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA), formed part of the national school-based AGG programme endorsed by MAGGA.

Now in its second year under the school programme, the competition featured compulsory AGG routines across Under-10, Under-12, and Under-18 categories.

Beyond the medals, the event served as a pathway for young gymnasts to progress from school-level contests to National Assessment (NAD) programmes and eventually IFAGG-sanctioned international competitions.

Young gymnasts from SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 1/2 display teamwork and artistry on the competition floor.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, who was the guest of honour for the event, stressed the importance of sports in shaping youth development while emphasising the balance between athletic achievement and education.

“Sabah and Sarawak are more than neighbours; we are family — woven together by shared histories, cultures, and hopes for our children’s futures.

“Together, you are the shining future of our beautiful region,” he said.

At the event, he presented a RM3,000 contribution to SAGGA to further its development efforts.

MAGGA Secretary-General Sarah Sarraj represented the national body and reaffirmed support for local athletes.

“We are proud to endorse the school-based programme and to support local athletes as they embark on their AGG journey, from school-level competition to the national and international stage.”

Track & Dance Studio’s Red Storm and Cheerful Cremery struck gold in the Under-18 and Under-12, while SJK Chung Hua No 6 impressed with Six Stars in the Under-10.

Mine Dance Studio’s Stars of Sarawak took Under-12 gold and added multiple podium finishes, while Track & Dance Studio’s The Gifted Six also clinched Under-10 gold.

Sabah’s SJK (C) St James Kota Kinabalu swept gold in both the Under-10 and Under-12 Invitational categories.

The competition featured strong representation from Sarawak with teams from SJKC Sungai Apong, SJKC Sungai Lubak, SJKC Batu 4 1/2, SJKC Chung Hua No 6, Mine Studio, Track & Dance Studio, and Rainbow RG Club Sibu, while the Sabah Invitational Category saw participation from SJK (C) St James Kota Kinabalu and LK Dream House, adding to the regional spirit of the event.
