ASEAN-China delegates visit Borneo Cultures Museum

KUCHING: Delegates attending the 48th ASEAN-China Joint Working Group Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (JWG-DOC) and the 24th ASEAN-China Senior Officials’ Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (SOM-DOC) paid a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum here on today.

The 50-member delegation was led by Director-General of the Maritime Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Datin Dr Adina Kamarudin.

Arriving at about 2:20 pm, the group was welcomed by the Head of the Museum Services Division, Borneo Cultures Museum, Yasmin Khalid Nicholls, along with museum officers.

The visitors toured several galleries in the museum, where Yasmin briefed them on artefacts and historical collections on display.

Kuching is currently hosting the 48th ASEAN JWG-DOC and the 24th SOM-DOC from August 11 to 14.

The meetings serve as a key platform for ASEAN and China to discuss the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), signed on November 4, 2002, and to accelerate negotiations towards a more effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC).
